Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the new Booking.com Headquarters is a landmark in sustainable urban design. As part of the design team led by UNStudio and HofmanDujardin, Makers of Sustainable Spaces was responsible for the integration of all greenery—inside and out. This included 11,000+ plants across the building’s interiors, terraces, rooftops, and public zones. The goal: to create a workplace that enhances employee well-being, celebrates biodiversity, and makes nature a central part of the company’s daily culture.
Greenery isn’t just decorative—it’s functional. MOSS developed a plant-driven masterplan that supports concentration, creativity, and comfort while reducing environmental impact. The greenery was integrated into structural elements, ceilings, staircases, breakout zones, and rooftops, with themes ranging from edible herb stations to immersive “escape rooms” of greenery. On the rooftop, the planting strategy became a “Multinational Garden,” where 50% of the plants are native Dutch species and 50% reflect the diverse cultures of Booking.com employees.
MOSS’s design contributes to the building’s BREEAM Excellent rating and its status as a case study in biophilic, resilient, and circular architecture. The greenery improves acoustic comfort, supports pollinators, purifies air, and enhances productivity—transforming a large-scale corporate campus into a living, breathing environment. Through flexible, modular systems and locally sourced plants, MOSS proved that high-performance sustainability can be beautiful, human-centered, and scalable for the cities of tomorrow.
