Ethical Design Co. (EDCo.) was engaged in 2021 to lead the digital refresh of the Medicines Development for Global Health (MDGH) website. Our scope included UX strategy, content writing and editing, visual design, custom illustrations, and development using Webflow CMS.
MDGH is an independent not-for-profit biopharmaceutical company that develops new medicines for people and communities who are disadvantaged by the traditional consideration of market returns. Notably, they became the first solo not-for-profit to achieve FDA approval for a novel medicine, moxidectin – the first new treatment for river blindness (onchocerciasis) in 20 years. Supported by their collaborators, MDGH is working to make lasting change in the lives of those affected by neglected diseases.
The primary goal of the website redesign was to increase digital engagement and attract a wider audience by creating a more compelling, user-friendly platform. By improving usability, structure and content flow, the site helps MDGH communicate their purpose more effectively and reach supporters and collaborators who can work with them to make lasting change in the lives of people affected by neglected diseases.
It was also designed to better represent MDGH’s values and impact. The refreshed site improves accessibility, strengthens messaging and supports donor and stakeholder engagement through clear structure, concise content and a modular layout that allows for ongoing updates.
The redesign delivered measurable results. In the first six months after launch (July–December 2021), the redesigned website saw a 113% increase in traffic, reaching 3,600 users without any SEO activity. It now consistently attracts over 7,000 visitors every six months, demonstrating the effectiveness of the user-friendly design and stronger content strategy in driving ongoing engagement.
EDCo. has partnered with MDGH since 2020, providing creative solutions across both print and digital collateral to support their ongoing communications and global health mission.
